Working is Ruining my Running

So I decided I was going to have to suck it up and start working constantly.  I added waitressing to my list of jobs.  I've since decided I'm not a fan.  The job is good it's just really getting in the way of my running.  April was by far my lowest mileage month by far. Under 100 for the month.  Not acceptable, but I'm working on carving out more running time without giving up Gretchen time.

I do work across the street from Liberty Memorial which has lots of these.

Stairs!  Occasionally I have time for a run right after waitressing and run them.  Little perk of the job.

Since I can't run as much as I want I bought myself this to work on that other goal.  Currently only at half a pull up but can do one full chin up.  This is an improvement.  Installed it just 2 days ago so I'm expecting dramatic results soon.

Unrelated but important:

I came home after working all day planing on my usual cheese quesadilla dinner.  I pulled out my last 2 flour tortillas and this unopened bag of shredded cheese.  I made my quesdilla and sat down to eat.  Took one bite and realized one of the 4 cheeses was America.  FYI Kraft pasteurized prepared cheese product is not cheese so don't include it in your 4 cheeses!  Yuck!  Had to throw it out and eat some oatmeal.  This is really the most upsetting thing that happened this month.  American cheese I'm not a fan.

New Year's Goals Blah Blah

I made with glue and glitter, then framed.

Miles 2012:  1166.63

Miles 2013:  1328.68

I didn't hit as many miles as I goaled out last year but still more than the year before.  I think December was my highest month of the year.

2014 Goals:  Run more without injuring myself
3 pull ups in a row
                     Run a 50 mile race
                     Set a new marathon PR
                     Create amazing exercise class experiences

I'm only making fitness goals and ignoring the rest of my life because I don't know what to do with that mess.

I asked Gretchen what her Goals were she said more parties and cake.  She should probably be spending more time with my bakery owning party having sister, Beth.

Running up the Numbers

Sun- ran 5 miles outside

Mon- nothing

Tues- 3 miles outside, taught suspension class

Wed- 2.25 miles on the treadmill before I went to a Silver Sneakers class with a couple of my favorite ladies from my Active Older Adult class Resistance training class.  I'm attending a few classes incase I ever want to sub.  Then that evening I was Gretchen free and there was a group run at a running store close by so I went for 3.5 more miles.

Thurs-  Had time for 7.25 miles on a trail, taught suspension class

Fri- ran 2 miles on the basement treadmill before Gretchen woke up

Saturday- drove to the gym during childcare time and had time for 4 miles.  Did some speed work on my run to mix it up on the treadmill.

Total = 27 miles, not the 30 I wanted to get but I lot closer than I've been getting.

Goal for this week is 30 miles.  I'm not going to attempt to even write up my schedule for this week.  I didn't really follow my schedule from last week and this week I have even less of an idea about when I might have free time to run outside.  Probably going to have to suck it up and run on the treadmill lots this week.  Also need to add more strength training into my week beyond the suspension class.  Depending on who and how many people are in the class I may do a little or a lot of the workout myself.  Plus I'm kinda use to it and it is only bodyweight, just need to mix things up with some actual weight.

It took me a few days to come to terms with having to buy a new phone.  Gretchen might of had a breakdown at the Verizon store when the employees were less than helpful but we should have a new phone tomorrow.  Which means I can take pictures again without having to pull out the camera.

The Marathon PR Plan

Last weekend I looked around at marathon race plans online then came up with this one for myself.  I mostly based it off a Hal Higdon plan just because I thought it looked closest to what I thought would work best for me.  I have never really had a race plan other than mileage goals and long run goals that I usually fell short of.  This time I have the whole thing planned out with higher mileage, speed work, hill work, tempo runs, race pace runs and long runs.  I am also doing some cross training.  The cross training is mostly strength and flexibility not too much more cardio.

Marathon

Monday: run
Tuesday: Easy run
Wednesday:  Tempo, 800’s, and hill
Thursday:  Rest day
Friday:  Race pace
Saturday:  Long run 30-45 seconds above marathon goal pace
Sunday:  Easy run

Week one is almost over and so far so good.  I've already switched days around which I figure I'll need to do the whole time and not worry to much about which day of the week I do which workout.  I have to do a lot of my runs on the treadmill but plan on using a babysitter or family for my long runs and a few of the other ones that are over 7 miles long.

Race Planning

A 60 something Australian couple resolve to run 365 marathons this year.  Maybe I set my mileage goals for the year a little low.
I think I've planned out most of my races for the first 6 months of the year.  I have not paid for any of them yet except for a color run but I don't really consider that an actual run.  More of a fun activity where I do my best to jog leisurely.  I have a marathon planned for the following weekend that I'm hoping to seriously PR in so that will help keep me in check.

My maybe race list

  • Chocolate rush half marathon              February 9th    I now have something else going on.
  • Ray Pec half marathon                         March 16th
  • Register for Marine Corps Marathon   March 27th*
  • Cameron April Fools 8k                      March 30th or April 6th?  If it is happening.
  • Color Run 5k                                       April 13th
  • Garmin Marathon                                 April 20th
  • Trolly Run                                            April 28th
  • Psyco Psummer 50k                             July 13th
*The marathon is not till October but last year the race sold out in 2.5 hours so it's a race to get in.

The race I'm most concerned with is the Garmin Marathon and I'm writing out an actual training plan for myself to follow.  I'll have 15 weeks as of Saturday to train.  The half marathons are more training for the marathon and I picked them based on date and price.  I may just do one not both.

I am also adding do more consecutive clapping push ups than my brother to my goal list.  I can currently do about 3/4 of one.  He is at 4-5.  I've got a little work to do.

1166.63 + Some, Mileage Goals

Was gifted this nice race medal holder made by my brother.  I received some other nice running related gifts as well like a foam roller, hand held water bottle, compression socks and regular running socks, jacket and some energy chews.

1166.63 Is the number of miles I recored as running in 2012.  There are 9 weeks that are unaccounted for.  I know there were 4 weeks in February and March I didn't run at all because of a surgery.  The other 5 weeks a didn't write down they were all low mileage weeks I'm sure or else I would of written them down.  I'm thinking of a mileage goal for next year. A goal of 1750 = 33.65 average a week, goal of 2000 = 38.46 a week.  Barring any injuries or surgeries that take me out for multiple weeks or longer I think the 1750 is a strong but reasonable goal.  I'm going for at least 1750 this year.

Anyone else have mileage goals for the year?
